Working for an engineering firm can have it's perks. When it comes to home maintenance I have structural and electrical engineers just down the hall to ask questions. I asked our electrical engineer about installing a backup generator. Here is what he said.
- Be careful using a gas generator for electronics. Gas generators may run unregulated electricity that may harm electronics.
- Consider installing a standby generator that runs on natural gas and has an automatic transfer switch. It senses when electricity has stopped and automatically switches power to the generator. This is great for sump pumps.
